Do methane emissions converge? Evidence from global panel data on production- and consumption-based emissions

The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report 2021 underscores the need to curb methane emissions. In this article published in Empirical Economics (open access), the authors investigate the convergence of methane footprints, highlight the difficulties to achieve methane abatement in the medium run, and argue that the formulation of climate policies should deal with methane emissions separately.
