Alumni Talk with Hiba Batool (MILE 17)
The World Trade Institute is pleased to welcome back alumna Hiba Batool (MILE 17), now Sustainable Development Officer at the International Trade Centre (ITC)
Hiba Batool is a Sustainable Development Officer at the International Trade Centre (ITC), the joint agency of the UN and WTO in Geneva. Ms. Batool’s areas of expertise include SME development, trade economics, law and policy, global value chains, and trade-related technical assistance. She has experience in developing country-specific strategies for export competitiveness and sustainable economic progress, as well as implementing strategies encompassing both economic and legal aspects. At ITC, Ms. Batool has been involved in project management in those areas, focusing on enhancing the competitiveness capacities of countries such as Laos PDR, Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Kenya, Indonesia, and Pakistan.
Prior to joining ITC in 2017, Ms. Batool worked as an International Trade Analyst for a consulting firm in the UAE, where she co-led the development of the firm’s flagship trade analysis platform. She also served the Planning and Development Department of Government of Sindh, in Pakistan, conducting research in industrial and trade development.
She holds a masters degree magna cum laude in international law and economics from the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern, in Switzerland, and a double-majors B.S. degree in economics and mathematics from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, in Pakistan. Ms. Batool is fluent in English and Urdu and is actively learning French.
