Navigating the AI Frontier in International Trade Law: The Role of the WTO's TBT Agreement

Milena da Fonseca Azevedo is a Visiting Researcher at the World Trade Institute (WTI) of the University of Bern in Switzerland. She is a PhD candidate in law at the University of Sao Paulo (USP), and a fellow of the Ministry of Education in the Program of Academic Excellence (CAPES/PROEX) in Brazil. Previously, she was a participant at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Support Programme for Doctoral Studies. She holds a Masters degree from USP, and a Bachelors Degree in Law from FGV Sao Paulo Law School. Her research topics are focused on International Trade Law, digital trade, artificial intelligence, regulatory standards and technical regulation, investment, environment, trade remedies, and OECD. She is a researcher at the Center for Global Trade and Investment Studies (CCGI) at the Sao Paulo School of Economics (EESP-FGV) and a contributor to the Global Law and Development Center (NDGD) of FGV Sao Paulo Law School. Milena is also an International Trade lawyer, acknowledged in the specialised publication The Legal 500 in 2017 and 2021 as very knowledgeable on WTO regulations and international trade policy. She is also part of Women Inside Trade (WIT), a global network of women international trade professionals, and a co-host of the podcast Witcast, which invites trade experts to discuss trending topics of trade.
