Utkarsh Uprety is a PhD student at the World Trade Institute, working on the SNSF-funded project Climate Concerns and Trade Policy (CLIMATRADE) under the supervision of Prof. Manfred Elsig.

Prior to joining the WTI, Utkarsh worked as an economist in the Economics Research and Statistics Division of the World Trade Organization, contributing to both its statistical and research functions. During this time, he developed a strong interest in the intersection of international trade and climate change. He has also consulted for various non-governmental organizations and government agencies.

He holds a master’s degree in international economics from the Geneva Graduate Institute and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Gettysburg College, USA. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, reading and playing football.
