Born and raised in Quito, Ecuador, Johanna Guerra is a lawyer with a deep interest in international trade and investment policy. She earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from San Francisco University of Quito and specialized in Public Policy Design at FLACSO Ecuador.
Johanna’s professional journey began at the Quito Chamber of Commerce, where she developed expertise in commerce and dispute resolution. She further expanded this experience during her time at the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments, and Fisheries of Ecuador, focusing on international trade, dispute resolution, and investment regimes. Notably, she assisted in negotiating the dispute resolution chapter of the trade agreement between Korea and Ecuador and reviewed trade agreements with partners such as China, Costa Rica, and Korea.
She is the recipient of the 2024-2025 Nathalie Diaz Asmat Scholarship, a privately funded award honoring a former WTO Dispute Settlement Lawyer, which supports young professionals from Latin America in pursuing a master’s at the World Trade Institute.
Fluent in both Spanish and English, Johanna is dedicated to using her legal expertise to shape equitable trade policies, focusing on areas such as dispute resolution, investment, and the intersection of trade and gender. She is driven by a vision of a more just and inclusive global trade environment.
