Yilun Tian
Yilun Tian is a dynamic and dedicated global trade professional from Shenzhen, China, with a background in tax and chemistry. Before joining the WTI, he served as a manager for customs and trade practice at PwC in Shanghai. Yilun earned his Bachelor's Degree in Applied Chemistry from Hunan University (Changsha, China) and also studied at Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan).
After completing his undergraduate studies, Yilun took a gap year to volunteer in Morocco, followed by six years of professional experience in trade, customs, transfer pricing and VAT at Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Prior to taking a career break to pursue his Master’s at WTI, he worked as a manager in PwC Shanghai’s customs and trade practice from 2022 to 2024. His expertise in tariff classification, customs valuation, export control has earned him the trust and partnership of numerous clients. As a consultant specializing in trade and customs law, Yilun has helped his clients ensure compliance with import and export regulations across various territories worldwide. He also has extensive experience in resolving trade-related disputes between enterprises and customs authorities. By applying his knowledge of supply chains, Yilun has supported clients in restructuring and optimizing value chains through the strategic use of free trade agreements.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Yilun is passionate about photography and mountaineering. With 15 years of experience in both film and digital photography, he initiated and successfully managed a photography postcard business during his university years, selling over 100,000 units and generating profits that covered his tuition expenses. As a mountaineer and beginner alpinist, he has summited seven snow-capped mountains over 5,000 meters. In July 2024, he accomplished the summit of Mt. Muztagh-Ata in Xinjiang, China, at 7,546 meters, demonstrating his love for high-altitude adventures. Yilun also enjoys swimming, reading, and engaging in outdoor activities such as bouldering, ice climbing, hiking, and trail running in his spare time.
Yilun is a native Chinese speaker, fluent in English and Japanese, and is actively working to improve his French (currently at a B1 level). He is a certified tax advisor and a certified tariff classification expert in China. Additionally, he holds the certification of Export Compliance Professional (ECoP).
