Jacob Shelton
MILE 24 student
World Trade Institute
from the United States of America
Jacob attained a Bachelor of Arts in History and Spanish (magna cum laude) at the College of Wooster in Ohio, USA. He first became interested in international law during his exchange program at the University of Salamanca, Spain in the spring of 2020. During his final year of study, he served as an intern for the Attorney General of Colorado under Phil Weiser, assisting in various tasks from document translation and communication with the Peruvian Consulate to legal research for the Sedona Conference. This experience inspired him to complete an undergraduate thesis focused on international law and human rights in the context of Spain’s Ley Mordaza through Wooster’s Independent Study program, receiving departmental honors.
To purse his passion for international cooperation and economic exchange, he chose to focus on international law and economics to better understand the complexity of the global system, making the MILE program at the WTI a uniquely enticing opportunity. Jacob hopes to build his knowledge of global affairs and economic regulation to better address the challenges facing international development and sustainability.
In his free time, Jacob enjoys hiking, weightlifting, and competing with the Scottish Great Highland bagpipe. He has also published several articles with Dr. Osmer Balam on Spanish linguistics, with a focus on bilingual English-Spanish codeswitching.
