Short-term training completed at the UWED on the WTO Agreements on TBT and SPS
The WTI completes a training on WTO Agreements in Tashkent, Uzbekistan at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
On 22-25 August 2022, a short-term training was held on the legal features of the WTO Agreements on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) and on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) to a group of professors and students from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED), in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of different public offices.
The training was organized by the WTI and the UWED as part of the project: “Facilitating the Process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization”, which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva (Switzerland) in cooperation with the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The training was delivered by senior lecturer Dr Arthur Appleton. During the interactive sessions, participants were given the opportunity to understand the regulatory policy space that WTO Members enjoy under the TBT and SPS agreements. The training was aimed at increasing Uzbekistan’s WTO awareness and aiding in its accession negotiations.
