Interview with Peter Van den Bossche as basis for a new article on the possible future WTO DG in the NRC
The leading Dutch newspaper NRC has published an article about the eight candidates for the position as new Director General of the WTO on the basis of an interview with Prof. Peter Van den Bossche, the WTI's Director of Studies.
Brief extract from the article:
"Peter Van den Bossche, tot begin vorig jaar lid van het Beroepsorgaan van de WTO, het hoogste orgaan bij geschillenbeslechting, ziet in Genève een „groeiende consensus” dat het „Afrika’s beurt” is om een directeurgeneraal te leveren, zegt hij aan de telefoon. Nooit eerder was de WTO-baas Afrikaans. De Belg Van den Bossche, nu hoogleraar en directeur bij het World Trade Institute in Bern, bespeurt ook veel „sympathie” voor een benoeming van een vrouw. Ook dat zou een primeur zijn voor de WTO."
