Winter Academy: Week three looks at WTO law on subsidies and countervailing measures

The third week of the WTI Winter Academy – a course on WTO Law on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures - attracted a large number of participants.

The course examined the provisions of the WTO Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures, their relationship with other WTO agreements, and the manner in which they have been interpreted and applied, particularly by the Appellate Body.

It was taught by Dr Luca Rubini and James Flett. Luca Rubini is Reader (Associate Professor) and Deputy-Director of the Institute of European Law at the University of Birmingham Law School. James Flett is deputy to the Director of the Trade Policy and WTO Team of the European Commission Legal Service.

What participants particularly valued about the course was the expertise and knowledge of the lecturers. They also enjoyed the anecdotes and examples shared by the lecturers.

The final week of the Winter Academy, beginning on 10 February, will address the topic of The Law and Policy of Trade in Services.
