What will it take for ASEAN to achieve full economic integration?

The ASEAN Economic Integration Forum (AEIF) 2016, of which the WTI is a knowledge partner, will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 14-15 September 2016.

The Forum seeks to critically analyse the prospects and challenges of economic integration among ASEAN Member States. Pierre Sauvé, the WTI’s Director of Programme Development and the co-author of a forthcoming book on ASEAN integration published by Cambridge University Press, will join a distinguished group of senior decision-makers and thinkers from the region and beyond in tackling issues of central concern to the main stakeholders of ASEAN integration drawn from business, policy-making, academic and civil society circles.

The Forum will situate its debates in the context of the ASEAN Community 2025 Blueprint: Forging Ahead Together. Among the core themes to be taken up at this year’s Forum are lessons that may be drawn from ASEAN’s lighter touch integration model in a post-Brexit world; the rising salience of maritime and ocean-related matters in the region, as well as the role and influence of ASEAN member states in a global context.

The AEIF 2016 is co-organised by the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, together with St Antony's College, Oxford and the World Trade Institute.

The Kuala Lumpur conference is the second event in the AEIF series, following up on the first edition held at St Antony’s College, Oxford, in November 2015.
