WTI reaches out to agricultural policy-makers in Vietnam

WTI Senior Research Fellow Christian Häberli spent a week lecturing at the Foreign Trade University Hanoi on the Non-Tariff Measures conscribed in the SPS, TBT and Agriculture Agreements of the WTO. He also gave a presentation at the MARD on his NCCR Trade Regulation research findings on “Climate Change Adaptation with Better Agricultural Trade and Investment Rules”. On the eve of both the Paris Climate Conference and the WTO Ministerial in Nairobi, to be held in December, the participants hailing from different government agencies and academic institutions showed a lively interest in the presentation, and asked a number of questions. Vietnam, as one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries with a big stake in both commercial and traditional agriculture, has a huge interest in further promoting interaction between academia and policy-makers both domestically and with its international partners. Cooperation with the WTI is thus expected to continue on a number of complex and interdisciplinary issues.
