Doctoral student awarded van Calker Scholarship
Lucia Satragno, a doctoral student under the supervision of Professor Thomas Cottier, has been awarded the prestigious van Calker Scholarship to conduct research in international monetary law at The Swiss Institute of Comparative Law in Lausanne.
The three-month scholarship will take place in 2015.
“I worked for some time as a jurist with the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law in Lausanne and it was by far the most valuable experience for me during my doctoral studies,” commented Doctoral Programme Director Dr Shaheeza Lalani.
“The Institute’s Law Library is second to none in Switzerland and the staff members are always ready to provide guidance on legal and academic arguments. I am certain Lucia will benefit from this experience and I wish her all the best,” she said.
Lucia is the first from the WTI Doctoral Programme to be granted a van Calker scholarship.
The Swiss Institute of Comparative Law awards a certain number of van Calker scholarships each year with the aim of permitting Swiss and foreign researchers to pursue academic projects at the Institute in the field of comparative law, as well as foreign and international law.
These scholarships are awarded in preference to candidates who have never before had the opportunity to undertake research outside of their country of origin or who are embarking on an academic career.
Past scholarship recipients include Professor Isabelle Romy of the University of Fribourg and EPFL, an elected Board Member of the bank UBS.
