Doctoral Programme stages annual retreat

Resident and non-resident PhD candidates have just returned from a two-day retreat, hosted by the MSB Montreux School of Business at Territet on Lake Geneva. The annual event provides an opportunity for participants to make a presentation on their thesis and receive feedback.

It also offers a chance for non-residents to exchange with those students based at the WTI.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive.  “It was nice to meet WTI doctoral students and to have an intellectual exchange with them during the three days of the retreat,” commented Oleksandr Bulayenko from CEIPI in Strasbourg. Umida Haqnazar from Uzbekistan said she found the event very useful “for streamlining my thoughts for the thesis”.

After receiving training on citation software and research methodology at the WTI, participants headed to Montreux on 10 October and presented chapters from their PhD theses to professors Thomas Cottier (Law) and Manfred Elsig (International Relations).

Presentations were made during five sessions, interspersed with social events – a visit to the Château de Chillon, lakeside walk and a semi-formal dinner on Friday evening.

Participants received written feedback on their work from their peers and thesis supervisors.
