The WTI continues and extends its cooperation with Brazilian trade agencies

Arthur Appleton and Christian Häberli, World Trade Institute faculty members, have delivered WTI’s second course in Brasilia - a Tailor-Made Training Course on the WTO SPS and TBT Agreements with Special Attention to the Implications for Brazil’s Trade in Agricultural Goods. Under a new agreement with the Brazilian authorities a further course will be held in November.

The one-week programme was organised by the Attorney General’s Office and brought together government officials from several trade-oriented government agencies.

Nicolin Jäger, Minister at the Swiss Embassy in Brasilia, and his wife, Gabriela Jäger, hosted a reception for the participants and for the WTI alumni based in Brazil. Over the years many Brazilians have graduated from WTI education programmes and several of them are now assuming prominent positions in government, international organisations and the private sector.

Based on a new Memorandum of Understanding between WTI and the Attorney General’s office, WTI will offer a one-week training course on subsidies in November 2014. The MOU also provides for other training programmes in Brazil, as well as opportunities for Brazilian Government officials to study at the WTI in 2015 and beyond.
