Shaping Global Trade: Prof. Joe Francois is the new chair of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Scientific Council

The GTAP Scientific Council was formed in 2024 to explore new directions in global economic analysis and to broaden the scope of scientific contributions from the GTAP research community.

Professor Joseph Francois has been appointed as the chair of the newly established Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Scientific Council. 

The GTAP Scientific Council comprises experts from diverse fields, including biodiversity and land use, climate science, international trade and economic development, nutrition, and earth systems science. The council convenes annually to discuss potential future research directions for GTAP, ensuring that the project remains at the forefront of addressing emerging global economic challenges.

Professor Francois is a distinguished economist specializing in international economics and political economy. Since 2014, he has served as a Professor of International Economics at the University of Bern and is the Managing Director of the World Trade Institute. His extensive career includes positions such as Professor of Economics at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, and roles at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He has also worked with organizations like the U.S. International Trade Commission and the World Trade Organization.
