WTI Fellow Christian Häberli chairs USMCA Panel Ruling against Mexico in GM Corn Dispute

Mexico, the largest importer of U.S. corn, issued a decree in 2023 banning the use of GM corn in tortillas and dough, with plans to phase out its use in other food products and animal feed. The Mexican government justified these measures as part of broader food security policies, emphasizing the protection of native corn varieties and indigenous farming traditions. However, the U.S. challenged the restrictions, arguing that they lacked a scientific basis and unfairly restricted trade under USMCA rules.

Hear from Dr. Christian Häberli, who chaired the Panels in both GM/SPS cases.
