Insights on Sustainable Agricultural Trade
Wrapping Up 3.5 Years of the MATS Project
The Horizon 2020 MATS project, which received funding of €4 million, concludes after 3.5 years of impactful research. Coordinated by the University of Helsinki, the Consortium of 14 partners across Europe, Africa, Brazil, and Vietnam addressed global food security challenges, trade dynamics, and sustainability in agricultural trade. The World Trade Institute contributed to this critical research.
The WTI’s contributions, led by Dr. Christian Häberli, explored key issues such as the political economy of trade regimes, shortcomings in international trade, investment and climate regulations, and the broken food trade routes between Ukraine and Africa. The project’s findings aim to support policy improvements for sustainable agricultural trade worldwide.
