Inauguration of the 10th edition of the WTI-CWS Joint Academy in Delhi
The 10th edition of the WTI-CWS Joint Academy on International Trade Law and Policy was inaugurated on Monday, 3 June in Delhi.
The Academy is jointly organised by the World Trade Institute and the Centre for WTO Studies and takes place from 3 to 28 June 2024. This year marks a significant evolution in the Joint Academy, as besides the 4-week law programme, a 2-week economics programme is integrated for a more comprehensive learning experience.
The inauguration took place at the premises of the Indian Insitute of Foreign Trade in New Delhi. Dr. Pritam Banerjee (Head, CWS) welcomed the participants and introduced the legacy of this programme to the cohort, followed by introductory remarks by Ms. Shailja Singh (Legal Consultant/ Associate Professor, Centre for Trade and Investment Law). The chief guests, Prof. Peter Van den Bossche (Director of Studies, WTI) and Mr. Sumanta Chaudhuri (Former Secretary, Govt. of India), encouraged the cohort to pursue an exciting career in trade while also pragmatically introducing them to the current situation of the international trading system. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Vishakha Srivastava (Senior Research Fellow, CWS).
Over the past decade, the Joint Academy has provided a unique platform to students who are seeking to pursue, and professionals who are looking to expand their career in the field of international trade. The Academy has an exceptional lineup of lecturers from the World Trade Insitute and various Indian institutions and diverse participants with a law and economics background.
