A short recap of Professor Cottier's event last week

A manifesto to revise Swiss neutrality presented to the media at the World Trade Institute on May 29th, 2024.

The manifesto, published in three official languages of Switzerland, is available on the website of the the Association La Suisse en Europe. It calls for taking into account obligations under the UN Charter in terms of collective self-defence against armed attack and to respect that even neutral countries can no longer treat aggressors and victims equally, as currently is the case in Switzerland in respect to exporting military equipment, even prohibiting NATO States the re-exportation of Swiss military equipment to the Ukraine. The manifesto calls to define neutrality in function of the needs of security policy, and not vice versa as under current practices. Switzerland depends on security on close cooperation with NATO and the EU (PESCO) and the manifesto calls to deepen such cooperation. The manifesto was developed by a group coordinated by Professor Cottier, former managing director of WTI, and signed by 87 personalities, including three former ministers. The manifesto is open for signature on line and was widely discussed by Swiss media.
